ANDY REID (THE ARMS CAPITAL 5) |
1sts vs Wests, 28th June 2009 |
Wests are currently in top spot in the league and United are in bottom place and I suppose that the 4-2 loss seems a reasonable result considering the void between the both teams, certainly on paper. In reality Dean was hugely dissappointed after the game believing that we possibly should have earned a draw and a valuable point. United have always performed well against Wests and Saturdays game was proof of this comment, but whilst players make silly mistakes in vital areas on the paddock top teams will crucify you for them, we did made a few blunders and the home team capitalised on them and goals were scored. Wests were leading 1-0 until young Mikey Graham scored a screamer to equalize but once again, with time just about up for the half-time whistle, Wests grabbed a 2-1 lead. Golly, how many times have we done this in recent times? It must be really disappointing and frustrating for the players and the coaching staff, down 2-1 after the first 45 minutes. The second spell was equally even with Hicham Kamri tormenting the Wests defenders who had been keeping his working space to the minimum but a rash tackle on Hicham was the beginning of an on field melee with the Wests defender and Hicham being red carded and both sent for an early shower. The sending off of Hicham certainly hurt us badly as we were playing with one striker up front, leaving us fairly toothless in the goalscoring department and this effectively killed the game off for for United. Wests scored 2 more goals in the time remaining and substitute Zac Lancaster came on and scored his first goal for the club making the final score Wests 4 United 2. Trent Watson regained his good form after his poor game against Olympic last weekend and was a tower of strength in the middle of the park. Chris Chang and Reg Richards were the two other standout players deserving of special mentions. When, I repeat when, all of our players give us 100% at the same time in any one game, we will win. And I dont care who the opposition is, we will win. Hopefully it will be against Palmerston North Marist in 2 weeks time. Never mind, the prestigous Chatham Cup continues this weekend for United with a tough away game with archrivals Miramar Rangers and this gives our lads a timely break from the rigours of Central League footy and Dean can tinker with his lineup if need be and possibly play a more attacking game. That's the best thing about cup footy, one team can only go through on the day. Lets make sure it is The Orange and Blues |

Cancellations feature again, Salmon Skins, Reserves struggle, Firsts fight but Wests too classy, Dreamy Vistas, Clash dispatch Karori...... |
Not alot to talk about, loads of cancellations, great results in the Social leagues but not too flash in the top leagues..... |
The Salmon and the Clash were the only social teams to get on the paddocks last weekend, and both made the most of it with solids wins for the Club. Mr Football continues his assault on the Golden Boot table with 2 more in the bag, could it be back to back trophies for the wirey hitman? The Dreamers also had a good win, and still stay in good shape for a run at the Championship spot. Unfortunately it wasn't such a good day at the office with both the Firsts and the Reserves going down, read more in Bobbys Bits below. |
